Public Works Repairing a Street LampThe Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining streets, traffic signals and signs, water distribution, wastewater collection, meter reading, sidewalks, stormwater management, building and grounds maintenance, cemetery and parks groundskeeping, public right-of-way maintenance, street cleaning and solid waste collection. This department provides all maintenance services within the current corporate limits, as well as responsibility for utility lines throughout the service area.

Virginia 811 (VA811), commonly called Miss Utility of Virginia, is a not-for-profit organization created by Virginia’s utility companies (electric, gas, cable, etc.) to protect their underground facilities, lines, and pipes. VA811 is an independent organization and is not affiliated with the Town of Rocky Mount.
